Ubben, 93, of Oakes, ND, passed away May 30, 2014 at the Good Samaritan Society, Oakes.
Viola Marie was born on August 25, 1920 to Alexander and Esther (Peterson) Charpentier. She grew up in the Oakes area and graduated from Oakes High School in 1938. On February 17, 1942 she married George Ubben, and together they had six children, Judith, Patricia, Karen, Georgia, Mary Sue, and Robert. Vi worked for her dad at Carps Café and The Cabin, and later was employed at the Super Valu Store in Oakes, until she retired because of a car accident. Vi was an active member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, a life time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the sewing club. She enjoyed playing cards and watching the Minnesota Twins.
She is survived by five children, Judy (Harley) Mathias, Valley City, ND, Karen (Tim) Weatherhead, Fargo, ND, GiGi (John) Moore, Oakes, ND, Mary Sue (Cleo) Hibbs, Yankton, SD, and Bob (Karen) Ubben, Oakes, ND; her sister, Lorraine Goodin, Minneapolis, MN; a sister-in-law, Marc Charpentier, Oakes; thirteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. Vi was preceded in death by her parents, her husband George, daughter Patricia, brother Donald, and brother-in-law Clifford.
A Rosary will be said on Monday, June 2, 2014 at 6:00 p.m. and a prayer service will start at 7:00 p.m. all at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. Her funeral mass will be Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, Oakes, with burial to follow at the Oakes View Cemetery.
