N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time in history, the U.S. Department of Education has released a list of 55 colleges being investigated for possible Title IX violations related to sexual violence on campus.
Today, the department has announced several other colleges being investigated, bringing the total number of schools to 60. Among the list is Minot State University. Title IX is a system that all colleges, universities and K-12 schools must comply with in order to receive federal funding. Schools that violate the Title IX system or refuse to address problems identified by OCR can lose federal funding or be referred to the U.S. Department of Justice.
Schools receive funding in order to address sexual violence and other forms of sex discrimination under Title IX, which was established in 1972 to prohibit discrimination based on sex in education programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance.
