“Jack” Moerke, 83, of Hecla, SD passed away May 25, 2014 at the Oakes Community Hospital.

John Gilbert was born March 4, 1931 at Guelph, North Dakota to John and Sadie (Litch) Moerke. He married Stella Johnson on September 29, 1951. They made their home near Hecla, where John farmed and also worked at Lahmans Manufacturing.

John was well known for making bread, and has made many dozens of buns over the years for people to enjoy. John was also very mechanical and enjoyed building things, especially airplanes. He loved his new lawn mower, and he loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and spending time with them whenever he could.

He is survived by his wife Stella; four children, John Moerke, Britton, SD, Rena (Harold) Sukut, Hecla, SD, Tom (Betty) Moerke, Des Plaines, IL, and Barb (Timothy) Pahl, Guelph, ND; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by one brother and one sister. John was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, one sister, and one grandson.

A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. Burial will be in the Hecla City Cemetery. An on-line guestbook may be signed at www.dahlstromfuneralhome.com
