N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liners softball team’s season came to an end in a 2-1 loss to Fargo Shanley on Saturday afternoon in a  Eastern Dakota Conference State Qualifier.

Valley City took the lead to start the game in the bottom of the first when leadoff hitter Jessica Denholm made her way around the bases to score from third on a Madison McDaniel bunt. However, the Hi-Liners would fail to get on the board again. With Strong defense Valley City kept Shanley in check throughout much of the game, but in the seventh inning things fell apart.

With runners on second and third base, Marissa Schons hit a two RBI double to left center field that brought home the winning run for the Deacons.

Jessica Denholm pitched an outstanding game for the Hi-Liners giving up just two hits through 6 innings.  She struck out 11 batters and walked seven.

Molly Schmidt earned the win for Shanley allowing just one hit and striking out seven Hi-Liners.  McDaniel had the only hit for the VCHS in the game.

Valley City ends the season 11-5 in the EDC with a overall mark of 20-11. McDaniel, Dierra Diegel, Danica Diegel and Brooke Breckheimer were all named to the All-Conference team.
