N.D (NewsDakota.com) The night belonged to the pitchers on Friday, as #6 Fargo Davies upset #2 Valley City with a 2-0 win in the Eastern Dakota Conference Semifinals.
While Jessica Denholm was outstanding on the mound for the Hi-Liners, her counter part for Fargo Davies, Carla Binde, was every bit as good. The Hi-Liners ace struck out six batters and allowed just 9 hits in the eight inning affair. Binde ended the night with throwing just 67 pitches and allowing just seven hits in the extra inning game.
The only runs of the game came in the eighth inning, when Mercedes Swanson sent a shot to center field that scored two runs for the Eagles on a stand up double. In the bottom of the frame, Binde would continue to keep the Hi-Liners batters off balance setting down all three that she faced.
The loss puts the Hi-Liners into a State Qualifier with Fargo Shanley for the final spot in Minot. The two teams meet twice back on April 26th and 29th. Valley City took the first meeting at the Detroit Lakes Tournament in a 11-6 final. Just three days later, Shanley returned the favor with a 4-3 victory in Valley City. The Deacons and Hi-Liners meet up on Saturday at 1pm with the winner moving going to State and the loser going home.
