(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School Track and Field teams have qualified 14 members for the 2014 North Dakota State Class B Meet at the Bismarck Community Bowl later this week, and earned some accolades at this past weekend’s Southeast Regional Meet.
The Oakes boys finished the region meet in sixth place with 56 points, while the girls finished in 11th with 20 points.
Preston Andersen set new school records in the high jump and triple jump over the weekend. He was first in the high jump with a jump of 6’3 and second in the triple jump with a jump of 44’ 6.5”. The previous school record in the high jump was 6’2” set by Steve Hedtke in 1989. Andersen broke his own record in the triple jump that he set earlier this year of 43’8”.
Geoffrey Rath placed third in the triple jump with a jump of 42’9” and qualified for state by place and distance. The boys 4×100 relay team was first with a time of 44.79 seconds. The team consisted of Carter Zetocha, Preston Andersen, Geoffrey Rath and Blake Hollingsworth. The same group is already qualified in the 4×200 relay, and set a new school record earlier this year with a time of 1:34.54.
The girls 4×800 relay team also took first with a time of 10:33.70. The team consisted of Alyssa Petersen, Shelby Gelinske, Abbey Folkman, and Shelby Roney.
Other Southeast Regional Place winners included:
Blake Hollingsworth- 4th in the 100 meter dash, 6th in the 400 meter dash Geoffrey Rath- 6th in the high jump
Shelby Roney- 6th in the 800 meter run
Shelby Gelinske- 5th in the 400 meter dash
Keaton Peterson- 6th in Javelin
Boys 4×200 Relay- 4th place, team consisting of Landon Hill, Keaton Peterson, Carson Roney, and Eric Burrous.
Girls 4×200 Relay- 6th place, team consisting of Bailey Skjefte, Shelby Roney, Makayla Wetzel, and Shelby Gelinske.
Dakota County Radio (KOVC-AM 1490, KDDR-AM 1220, KQDJ-AM 1400 KDAK 1600-AM) will have hourly reports from Bismarck during the State Meet on Friday and Saturday.
