CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The entire state (16 teams) converged in the West Fargo/Fargo/Moorhead area for the West Fargo Invitational Tournament.  In this tournament, teams play six singles players in six flights and 6 doubles players in 3 flights, each team gets one entry per flight.  Top 5 finishers receive medals and receive team points.  To make this happen, all nine flights have their own court site.

Individual Records from the West Fargo Invite on Saturday:

#2  Default (Maia Wendel sprained ankle)
#3  Cassidy Fulton 1-2
#4  Melissa Pedersen 2-2
#5  Hannah Miller 1-2
#6  Angela Larson 2-2 (4th place)

Doubles:
#1  Reagan Ingstad/Clarissa Olson 3-0 (2nd place)
#2  Abby Ingstad/Rachel Schueneman 1-2
#3  Breanna McDonald/Brooke McDonald 2-2

We did take 5th place last year where we had a full line-up and we placed individuals in the spots to score points for the team.  This year, we finished 7th in the tournament that included the whole state where we were missing our #3 and #5 players and we placed individuals in the spots to gain experience for the future.

The experience of the day was invaluable.  Abby and Rachel may play doubles together in the EDC tourney, so playing 3 matches today and 2 matches yesterday together should go far in solidifying that team.

The McDonalds played right next to the corn field at Davies and learned how a tournament works #eieio.

In singles, Cassidy, Melissa, Hannah, and Angela all had some success and learned on the court.  These were probably their last matches on the year, so getting into this tournament, finding success, and feeling a tournament atmosphere will help them all with their motivation for the offseason to keep improving.  Sam drew a tough draw at #1 singles.  That is a tough spot to be and I’m proud of Sam for taking it and I’m sure to put her heart and soul into those matches like she does every time she is on the court.

Next action for the Hi-Liners is the regional tournament next Thursday through Saturday in Grand Forks.  We are guaranteed the #3 seed in the team regional tournament by finishing the regular season 6-2.  We will not know who we will play until after Monday’s match between Davies and Fargo North.  If Davies wins, we will play North in the first round.  If North wins, there would be a 3 way tie including Shanley and the tie-breaker would determine the 4, 5, and 6 seeds.

I love being a Hi-Liner!
