CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Hi-Liner baseball team will have to wait for the first Eastern Dakota win of the year after being swept by Fargo North 13-0 and 17-0 on Friday night.
The loss drops the Hi-Liners to 1-15 on thee season with a 0-12 conference record. The first place Spartans advance to 12-1 in the EDC with a 14-9 overall record.
The Spartans wasted no time putting runs on the board. In the first inning they were spearheaded by Brady Ostendorf who drove in two of North’s four runs in the opening frame.
While the Hi-Liners were able to keep the Spartans in check for the next few innings, they could find no answer to the pitching of Nathan Hegstad. The sophomore hurler was perfect through 3 1/3 innings before Austen Meyer ended the run with a double to center field. The Hi-Liners only other hit came from a Ben Baasch grounder that worked its way past the Spartans short stop in the sixth inning.
North would add five more runs to their total in the fourth and fifth. A three run homer from Ian Schultz would lift the Spartans to a bakers dozen for the game.
North flexed the muscle again in game two jumping on top of Valley City early with a seven run first. The Spartans offense would come up with 17 runs in the game, stopping play after just five innings.
Valley City will look to earn their first EDC win on Tuesday, May 13th when they host Fargo South. That game can be heard on 1490 KOVC starting at 5:00 pm.
