N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Medina students came out on April 23rd to celebrate Earth Day by planting a community orchard.
According to Sue Balcom, FARRMS Executive Director, roughly a dozen apple trees were planted in the Medina Park. The ceremony was held at 2 P.M. with the Medina grade school students. Kathy Wiederhold, Fruit Project Manager at the NDSU Carrington Research Extension Center, educated students in the history and planting of the trees. Also attending the ceremony was Medina’s Mayor Dennis Kramlich, Rory Hoffmann from the Medina Park Board, and a handful of community members including FARRMS board member Annie Kirschenmann and ICS employees.
Plans for future development of the orchard could include park benches and donor enhancements or memorials to create a community green space.
