(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes School was in lock down for just under an hour Wednesday morning due to concerns regarding an Oakes man who was viewed as a safety risk.
Oakes School Superintendent Josh Johnson tells KDDR Radio that a man identified as a safety risk to students and staff was seen a block away from the campus at approximately 10:15 Wednesday morning.
The school returned to a normal schedule just before 11:30 a.m, after the man, identified by Oakes police as 38 year-old Dale Smith Jr. was arrested. School officials and police confirmed that there was no immediate threat to the school at any time during the lock down.
Oakes Police Chief Marke Roberts says Smith was arrested without incident on violation of bond stemming from previous charges. Smith is currently in the Barnes County jail, and is being held without bond.
Smith was arrested on March 16th on suspicion of drunken driving after veering his truck off North Dakota State Highway 1 and into an Oakes home.
