(NewsDakota.com)- For the first 11 innings of the doubleheader the University of Jamestown was only able to muster a single run again the Mayville State pitching staff. The Jimmies struck for five runs in the 5th inning of game two, thanks to an error and salvaged a split with an 8-3 win. The Comets took the opener 3-1.
Landon Uetz’s solo home run in the second inning was the only offense the Jimmies could push across against Alex Brockpahler. The left fielder Jack Pistulka actually appeared to have robbed Uetz of a round-tripper, but it deflected off his glove.
Mayville scored twice in the fourth to break a 1-1 tie on singles from Aaron Miller and Christian Berry. Kyle McKay went 4.2 for the Jimmies and gave up all three of those runs. Ryan Sheeley was tough in 2.1 innings of scoreless relief.
Kyle Shaikoski got the start in game two and made the most of it. He pitched eight strong innings scattering six hits and yielding only three runs, two of which were unearned. The Comets first basemen Rowdy Dove’s key error in the 5th, lead to three extra Jimmies runs en route to their 8-3 win.
Nick Smart worked the ninth in relief and faced just two batters to get three outs after Gaige Dunn walked the lead-off man.
