N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol is reminding drivers to obey the Move Over Law when encountering authorized emergency vehicles and maintenance vehicles.
According to Sgt. Tom Iverson, since December 2013, four NDHP vehicles with activated lights have been struck by other motorists while providing traffic control or on a traffic stop, resulting in several injuries to troopers and other motorists.
Motorists are reminded that when approaching an authorized emergency vehicle on a multi-lane highway outside city limits, they must move to a lane not adjacent to the emergency vehicle in regard to safety and other traffic. If the driver cannot move to another lane, they must proceed with caution, reduce speed, and maintain a safe speed for road conditions.
Failure to comply with the Move Over Law may result in a $50 fine and two points assessed to their driving record.
