CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The VCSU track teams traveled to the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse over the weekend for their first outdoor meet of the year.

Spear heading the Vikings women in the field events was Jessica Meland who placed eighth in the hammer throw. Her throw of 147 feet and two inches set a new school record that was previously held by Amber Volanti. In the same event, Kate and Mary Roscoe also had remarkable throws that placed them sixth and seventh, respectively, on the VCSU all-time performance list.

On the men’s side, Malik Jackson led the way for the Vikings finishing in 12th place in the 800m run with a time of 1:59.33. Jackson would also go on to take 34th place in the 1500m race.

The Viking’s men would also have success in the relays as the 4×100 team of Randy Hoang, Summer Clayton, Niklas Ernst, and Philip Reuer made their way across the finish line in fourth place. Ernst would also puck up a top four finish in the 400-meter hurdles.

Next up for Valley City State is the Dakota Duels at North Dakota State University on April 12th.
