Christenson, 78, of Oakes, ND, passed away April 5, 2014 at Sanford Medical Center, Fargo, ND.

Ronald Wayne was born to George and Pearle (Thompson) Christenson on April 11, 1935. He was raised on a farm north of Oakes, and graduated from Oakes High School with the class of 1953. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958, stationed in Texas and California. Ron married Jolene Kupitz at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oakes on July 12, 1958. They lived in Van Nuys, CA, where Ron managed Magic Muffler. In 1960 they moved to North Dakota, and Ron drove truck for a year and a half before returning to California. In 1966 they moved to the Crete area and farmed. Ron and Jolene moved to Oakes in 1984, but continued to farm until retiring in 1988.

Ron was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church. He also served on the Verner Township Board for 14 years, Sargent County FHA Board for three years, Community Credit Union Board for eight years, and was a member of the Oakes Volunteer Ambulance for four years. Ron enjoyed fishing, playing cards, golfing and traveling south in the winter.

He is survived by his wife Jolene; four children, Cindy (Bruce) Hurt, Perham, MN, Brad (Deborah) Christenson, Haslet, TX, Steve Christenson, Saginaw, TX and Brian (Shari) Christenson, Nashville, TN; one sister, Marlene (David) Warren-Gasper, Quartz Hill, CA; nine grandchildren, Megan, Matthew (Stefanie), Barry, Andrew, Lauren, Elijah, Hali, Caden and Taya; and one great-grandson, Trygve. Ron was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Gerry, and a daughter-in-law Kay Christenson.

Visitation will be held on Monday, April 7, 2014 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. with a prayer service starting at 7:00 p.m. at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, Oakes. His funeral service will be Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Oakes, with burial to follow at the Oakes View Cemetery.
