Sister Mary Frances Lux, SMP, age 84, of Valley City, ND, died March 26th at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 1st at the Maryvale Convent Chapel near Valley City, ND. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 31st from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Maryvale Convent Chapel. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Monday evening at the Convent Chapel. Interment will be in Maryvale Convent Cemetery in the spring.
Sister Mary Frances was born December 22, 1929 in Lisbon, ND to Melvin and Frances (Barta) Lux. She professed her vows as a Sister of Mary of the Presentation on September 15, 1947 in Spring Valley, IL. She graduated from St. Aloyius School in Oakwood, ND and then attended St. Andrew’s Nursing School in Bottineau, ND. After graduating with her Nursing Degree, she moved to St. Margaret Health in Spring Valley where she was the Head Nurse in the O.B. department. Later she returned to Bottineau, ND and began working as Food Service Supervisor at St. Andrew’s Hospital. She then moved to Rolla, ND where she served for over 10 years as the Administrator at Presentation Medical Center. She moved back to Spring Valley, IL and worked as Food Service Manager for 11 years. She moved back to North Dakota in 1986 and worked in food service for the poor at the Grand Forks Mission House. She was then asked to go to Les Cotils, Guernsey where she served for 8 years on the Hospitality Staff. When she returned to the United States, she took Clinical Pastoral Education courses at LaCrosse, WI and became part of the Pastoral Care Department at St. Margaret Health in Spring Valley and was there until she retired to Maryvale in 2001. At Maryvale she was also part of the hospitality staff for a time.
Sister Mary Frances is survived by her Religious Community, the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation; sisters, Leona Marshall, Valley City, ND, Mary Ann (Bill) Goddard, Plymouth, MN, Theresa (Jim) Fields, Valley City, ND and Margaret (Neal) Bohnsack, Williams, AZ; brothers, Melvin (Alice) Lux, Salem, OR, Francis (Louise) Lux, Craig, CO, Deacon Charles (Philann) Lux, and Lawrence (Barb) Lux, all Rock Springs, WY.
Sister Mary Frances was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Richard.
