Marcella “Sal” Metcalf, age 59, of Valley City, ND, died Friday, March 21, 2014 after a courageous battle with leukemia. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, March 26th at Epworth United Methodist Church in Valley City with Reverend Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating. Visitation will be held on Tuesday from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Lerud Schuldt Funeral Home and one hour before the service on Wednesday morning at the church. A prayer service will be held at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery near Valley City.
Marcella (Sal) Malaine (Johnson) Metcalf was born January 4, 1955 in Litchville, ND to Rodger and Mary Johnson. She graduated from Valley City High School in 1972. On January 5, 1974, she married James (Mike) Metcalf. They settled in Valley City and were blessed with two children, Heather and Brian. They were the owners of Valley Flooring in Valley City for 23 years. Sal will be remembered as a loving wife, mom, and nana. She always put her family first. She was a kind and giving woman who wanted nothing but the best for everyone she loved. Her favorite times were spent with her “grands” and she was the happiest when she was cooking for her entire family. She will be desperately missed by many.
Sal is survived by her father, Rodger Johnson and his wife Delores; sisters, Sheila and her family, sister, Bonnie and her family, and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by husband, Mike, daughter, Heather (Nate, Adam, Griffin, and Ellie Kvilvang), and son Brian (Sam and Olivia).
She was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Kay Johnson.
