N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Authorities say 38-year-old Dale Smith Jr. of Oakes was driving a 1999 GMC pickup truck southbound on Highway 1 on the north side of Oakes.  The vehicle crossed the northbound lane, drove over a boulevard and crossed intersecting Elm Avenue.  The vehicle drove across the front yard of the Podoll residence and crashed into their home around 12:10pm Sunday.

The Highway Patrol says 28-year-old Nick Podoll , his wife Alicia  and their 2-year-old daughter were in adjacent rooms at the time.  The vehicle drove through a dining room, living room, bath room and came to rest in a bedroom.  Podoll was struck by debris.  He was treated and released at the Oakes hospital. 

Smith was arrested for DUI.  Additional charges are pending.  He was transported by ambulance to a Fargo hospital for treatment of his injuries.  The crash remains under investigation.
