N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Police in Fargo say former attorney general Nicholas John Spaeth was found dead at his home on Sunday afternoon, he was 64. Police say the cause of death have not been determined, but they do not suspect foul play.
Spaeth was a Democrat who served as attorney general from 1985 to 1992. He lost his bid for North Dakota governor in 1992 to Ed Schafer.
North Dakota Senator Heidi Heitkamp says Spaeth modernized the operations of the attorney general’s office. Heitkamp was elected attorney general in November of 1992 after Spaeth left office.
State Democratic Party chairman Bob Valeu of Bismarck says the news of Spaeth’s death was disheartening.
Governor Jack Dalrymple says Spaeth “faithfully” served North Dakotans.
