(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes City Council held their monthly meet for their March on Monday evening.

In garbage related news, the Council denied B&B Gardens the use of the city’s landfill to dispose of the building’s remains from the recent fire. The landfill has been at capacity for more than a few months. This year’s Spring Citywide Cleanup week will be the week of April 21, however, just like the fall of 2013, city crews will not be picking up items from the curbside in town; residents and businesses will have to take out items that are not picked up to the landfill.

The Council agreed to spend $231,302 on a garbage truck from Sanitation Products, the same company which has faced criticism from some in the community due to the recent issues that were plaguing the city’s lone garbage truck. A bid was also received from Northern Truck Equipment. The Council, on a 5-1 vote, agreed to include a request of a delivery inspection and adequate training with the purchase of the truck.

The Council approved a new water tower to be built in its current location behind City Hall. Plans will be ready for approval at the next Council meeting which will begin the bidding process. The construction schedule and length will depend on the contractor selected.

The City has added an extra 1,000 gallons to the monthly base for every water account to encourage residents and business owners to run water to prevent freezing of water lines; from the original 1,000 gallons originally implemented. City Employees do help property owners by checking water mains and working with plumbers to open lines. The Council voted to deny payments on any plumbing bills for work done to thaw out water and sewer service lines no matter where a freeze line is located.
