(NewsDakota.com)  The Girls Region 3 Basketball Tourney finished up last night at Hazelton/Moffit/Braddock High School with the third place game and the championship game.  The third place game was a rematch of the District 5 title game and the championship game was a rematch of the District 6 title game.  Here are the results:

THIRD PLACE:  LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 56  Ellendale 49

The Cardinals of Ellendale jumped out to an early 9-5 lead at the end of the first quarter, but the Loboes would score 20 points in the second and third quarters and take a 45-28 lead at the end of three quarters and would never look back.  Sophomore Jacey Alber poured in 17 points off the bench for LLM followed by Tasha Piehl with 14.  Ellendale was led by Senior Dacey Fuller with 11.  The Loboes end their season at 17-7, the Cardinals end at 18-6.

CHAMPIONSHIP:  Kidder County 45  South Border 44 OT

The first two times these two teams met in the regular season this year, Kidder County won by a margin of 11 points combined.  Then in the District 6 Championship game, South Border would win by three points.  Last night was another close game, as the Lady Pirates come back from being down 16-1 at one point and bring home the Region 3 Championship. 

Leading the way for Kidder County was Sophomore Paige Schmidt with 17 points followed by Senior Sadie Rohrich with 14.  South Border was led by Morgan Schnabel with 16 points and 10 rebounds.  South Border ends their season at 16-8, Kidder County improves to 19-5 and will advance to the State Class B Girls Basketball Tourney for the first time since 2010.  This years tourney will be held at the FargoDome and will start next Thursday, March 20th.  The Lady Pirates will play the second game of the day against #3 Shiloh Christian at 2:45pm.
