N.D (NewsDakota.com) For the fourth time this season the Valley City girls basketball team would find itself on the wrong end of the score board as the West Fargo Packers defeated the Hi-Liners 67-49 in the state A consolation bracket. 

The loss eliminates the Hi-Liners from the from the final day of the tournament. They end the season with a 15-9 record. The Packers will move onto play Bismarck Century for fifth place in the state. The Packers advance to 20-3 on the year.

With her eye on 1000 career points, West Fargo’s Cassidy Thorson took control of the game immediately. She scored the opening points of the game and would go on to get 22 more before the final buzzer. Along with the play of their senior point guard, the Packers would shot 43 percent from the field eliminating any chance of a comeback. 

The defense of West Fargo proved to be just as effective as their offense holding Valley City to just 23 second half points. Dierra Diegel led the Hi-Liners with 15 points while Jessica Denholm was close behind with 14 on the night. 

After the game, a number of parents and students hung around waiting on the Hi-Liners to leave the locker room. When the girls came out they were greeted by applauding fans. A finale fitting for the first team in Valley City to reach a state tournament since 2005.
