N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – March 19th marks the nineteenth annual Kick Butts Day, a national day during which youth are encouraged to stand up and speak out against tobacco companies.
Julie Hoeckle, the Tobacco Prevention Outreach Coordinator in Jamestown, says that they will also be educating the public on tobacco companies and how they use corrupt marketing practices to target youth, despite the 1998 tobacco settlement to end this practice.
Research shows that 600 North Dakota youth under the age of 18 become new daily smokers every year, and 14,000 youth will die prematurely from smoking. To learn about tobacco prevention, contact Julie Hoeckle or Nancy Neary at 701-252-8130 or go to www.breathend.com.
