(NewsDakota.com)  Eight regions around the state of North Dakota opened their first day of action with 64 total teams competing, by the end of the day it would  be down to 32.  Although there were some close games, everything went according to seeding during the first day of the Region 3 Tourney.  Here are the results:

LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 49  Linton-Hazelton/Moffit/Braddock 44

The Champs from District 5 will move into the semi-final round tonight as they hold off the Lady Lions in yesterdays opening game.  Both teams combined for a total of eight 3-pointers in the first half, but only one in the second half.  The Loboes were led by Tasha Piehl with 13 points and two steals, followed by Courtney Carlson with 10 points and three blocked shots.  LHMB was led by McKenna Flyberg with 13 points including three first quarter 3-pointers.  LLM shot 17/35 for 48% from the field and they were 5/9 from beyond the arc.  The Lady Lions end their season at 12-11, the Loboes improve to 14-6.

Kidder County 47  Medina-Pingree/Buchanon 28

The Thunder score only three points in the first quarter, four in the second and five in the third as they drop to the Lady Pirates in yesterdays second game of the day.  The Thunder had a good fourth quarter scoring 16 but it was too late as Kidder County led 37-12 at the end of three quarters of play.  Kidder County was led by Mary Nicholson with 13 points and four steals.  MPB was led by Jenna Van Ray with nine.  The Thunder end their season at 11-10, the Lady Pirates improve to 16-4.

South Border 67  Barnes County North 42

The Mustangs had four players in double figures led by Kalli Scherbenske with 19 points and six steals, followed by Madison Schnabel with 16 points and 13 rebounds, Brooke Buchholz added 11 and Courtney Jochim had 10 points.  South Border was 16/32 from the charity stripe while shooting 40% from the field.  The Lady Bison were led by Kayla Scott with 14 and Samantha Wieland also with 14.  BCN ends their season at 6-17, the Mustangs improve to 15-7.

Ellendale 55  Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 47

The Cardinals had 20 turnovers compared to only eight from the Imperials but it didn’t matter as Ellendale won the last game of the evening and will advance into the semi’s against South Border tonight.  Shayna Mertz had 18 points and 10 rebounds for Ellendale, Napoleon/GS was led by Mariah Jangula with 21.  The Imperials end their season at 11-12, the Cardinals improve to 18-5.

20 min after – South Border  VS  Ellendale (semifinal)
