N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The National Weather Service of Bismarck has released their updated 2014 spring flood outlook for North Dakota. Currently, the flood risk across the Missouri and James River Basin remains near normal to somewhat elevated.

According to the report, the risk this year primarily comes from the frozen wet soils across Southern and Western North Dakota and some Spring rains on the nearly impermeable soil. This year, the Little Missouri River runs a greater than normal risk of minor flooding due to its above normal snow pack in its headwaters.

Soil moisture and frost depth are also at highly unusual levels across most of North Dakota, with some areas reporting 49 to 57 inches of frost.
