Duane Buerkle, 72, of LaMoure, ND, passed away February 26, 2014 at Sanford Health in Fargo, ND.
Gerald, son of John and Eleanora (Burkle) Buerkle was born on August 3, 1941 on the family farm in Fredonia, ND. Gerald was united in marriage to Lucille Woehl on June 16, 1963 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Kulm, ND. They made their home in Kulm, where Gerald worked at Bob’s Standard and Service Station. In 1967 they moved to LaMoure and Gerald was employed at Bob’s Texaco Station until 1974, when he started driving truck for Land O’Lakes in Oakes. In 1984 he went to work for Wendel Siedschlag hauling gravel. In 2001 he started working for Dakota Security at Bobcat in Gwinner, ND until he retired. After his retirement he drove bus for LaMoure Public School for two years.
Gerald was a proud supporter of LaMoure athletics. He enjoyed the game of baseball and telling others how it should be played. He also updated others letting them know what was going on in hometown athletics. He was LaMoure’s biggest fan. He coached softball and enjoyed 30 years of umpiring. He liked playing pinochle and visiting with people wherever he went. He especially looked forward to family reunions and class reunions. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church. He loved his wife’s cooking and enjoyed celebrating their milestone anniversaries. He was a caregiver for his wife until her death on April 12, 2010.
He is survived by two sons, Martin Buerkle of Los Angeles, CA and Mark (Michelle) Buerkle, Springfield, MN; three grandsons, Mitchell, Brendon and Bryan; one brother Roger (Laurie) Buerkle, Fargo, ND; and three nephews, Richard John, Tyler, and Nathan. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lucille, and a brother, Richard and an infant brother, Leroy.
Visitation will be held at Dahlstrom Funeral Home, LaMoure on Sunday, March 2, 2014 from 5-6 with a prayer service starting at 6:00 p.m. His funeral will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Monday, March 3, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be in the spring at Rosehill Cemetery, LaMoure.
