(NewsDakota.com)- It was a crazy game that had just about everything and it ended in strange fashion as well. Andrew Small’s jumper with 1.5 seconds to go put Linton-HMB in front 66-64 for the final margin in overtime over Strasburg-Zeeland.
A crazy sequence followed that made basket by Small. The Lion fans stormed the court, the only problem the gane wasn’t over. The officials put 1.5 second back on the clock and Linton-HMB was given a technical. Brody Niewsma missed both foul shots and the Clippers never got a shot off in the final seconds.
Jon Purintun had 20 points to lead Linton-HMB but fouled out with under a minute to go in regulation. Purintun hit the second biggest shot of the night to tie the game at 56 in regulation just before fouling out. Small was the catalyst for the Lions in the second half with all 19 of his points coming after halftime.
Strasburg-Zeeland did not trail into this game until the first possession of overtime. The Clippers struggled from the free throw making just 6/16 including some key misses in the final minutes of regulation.
The Clippers had four players in double-figures, Niewsma’s 13 lead the way.
For the Lions, its their third Region III title in the last four years. LaMoure-LM’s win in 2013 the lone missing link in that streak. The bracket for next weekend’s state tournament will be released at 10pm on Friday night.
