(NewsDakota.com)- Tuesday night at Jerry Meyer Arena, the Jamestown Blue Jays played their second-to-last home games of the season and were beaten up by the Century Patriots. The Century boys are the unquestioned No. 1-team in the state with a 17-0 record and they raced to a 43-18 halftime lead before finishing off the Jays 85-42. In the girls game, Jamestown lead 22-20 at half, but were outscored 43-17 in the second to fall 63-39.
Logan Anderson’s 12 points lead Jamestown who fell to 5-11 with the loss. Marc Wagner also added nine. The Jays needed Dickinson to beat Williston to help their chances of avoiding the WDA play-in game for the second consecutive year. The Midgets won that game and kept Williston at three conference wins, one behind the Jays.
Tyler Rudolph finished with 23 for the Pats, despite missing large chunks of the first half with foul trouble. Rudolph is headed to Minot State to play for former Jimmie head coach Matt Murken. Ramey Schatz had 14, including two on an alley-oop slam from Robert Hutchins.
The Jamestown girls made just seven field goals in their loss. Six of those field goals were made by Paige Peterson who added 20 points to her WDA-leading scoring average. McKayla Orr did not make a field goal, but was 10-10 from the free throw line. Erin Mullowney’s first-half three pointer was the only other field goal.
With the first half winding down, both Century head coach Ron Metz and assistant Kenyon Wingenbach were assessed techincal fouls, Peterson hit two of four from the line to give the Jays a 22-20 into halftime. But the Patriots came out looking like a different team in the second half and held Jamestown to just 17 points. Century leads the state in scoring defense and proved how good they can be on the defensive end in the second half.
Jamestown falls to 9-8 overall and 8-5 in the WDA. They have two games remaining with Bismarck High on Friday and St. Mary’s at home on Tuesday.
