Skramstad, 83, of Valley City, died on January 25, 2014 at the Sheyenne Care Center in Valley City.  Funeral services will be conducted at 1 PM Saturday Feb. 22, 2014 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Valley City with Pastor Jolene Knudson-Hanse officiating.  Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church.  Interment will be in Memory Gardens Cemetery later in the spring.

Donald LeRoy Skramstad was born on October 26, 1930, in Detroit, MI.  He lived on and farmed the family farm in Nome, ND, and owned and ran the bar in Nome for years.  Don served in the U.S. Army from November 1952 to December 1953 and was honorably discharged.

Don married Marjorie Maus on November 19, 1950.  They moved to Valley City where Don managed the KP Club and belonged to the Eagles, VFW, and American Legion.  He then became the custodian at Wells Fargo Bank, formerly First National Bank, in Valley City and worked there for the next 30 years.

Marge and Don went dancing at least once a month and played cards whenever they could.  Many evenings of pinochle, visiting, and poor sportsmanship in good humor are remembered.  Don always took care of Marge no matter what, and rarely missed a day of work.  A quiet, dedicated man.

Don was known for his cooking and baking.  Lots of goodies and his homemade buns made an impression. He lived in the kitchen, watching his TV and cooking.  This is also where he cheered on Norway at the Olympics and tried to teach the grandkids to count in Norwegian using playing cards.  Don was fiercely proud of his Norwegian heritage.

Don is survived by his wife of 63 years, Marge Skramstad, Valley City, ND.  Three children:  Deb Hamilton (Mike Holiday), Sanborn, ND; Kevin (Linda) Skramstad, Valley City, ND; and Donna (Kevin) Brewer, Murrieta, CA.  Eight grandchildren:  MeLissa (Curt) Rebenitsch, Fort Rice, ND; Joel Dahl, Casselton, ND; Kaleen (Travis) Peterson, Valley City, ND; Jace-Owen Skramstad, Maple Grove, MN; Kierstin Lorenz, Grand Forks, ND; Danielle (Paul) Sedler, El Paso, TX; Alexis (Travis) Rosene, Fallbrook, CA; and Kassidy Brewer, Murrieta, CA.  And three great-grandchildren:  Michaela and Katelyn Rebenitsch, Fort Rice, ND; and Sullivan Peterson, Valley City, ND.
