CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) With the Boys team on the road in Grand Forks and the Girls team at home, the Hi-Liners would split games with Red River on Tuesday night with the boys falling 82-38 and the Girls team claiming a narrow 54-53 win.
The two point loss at the hands of the Rough Riders drops the Hi-Liners boys team to 0-8 in Eastern Dakota Conference play, with a 2-7 record on the season. The win lifts Grand Forks Red River into third place in the league with an 8-3 record in the conference and a overall record of 8-4.
The game started with the Rough Riders and Hi-Liners trading points but as Valley City closed the lead to 10-8, the Rough Riders turned on the jets. After three quick steals, the home team would take control of the game. The Hi-Liners would watch the lead become insurmountable, until the first half ended with the Rough Riders leading the Hi-Liners 43-12.
While the Hi-Liners found themselves in a large hole, they did not give up. Valley City would go on a 10-4 run to start the second half. Jared Lentz would spur the Hi-Liners on, scoring nine of his 12 points in the last period of play.
Despite a strong second half it was not enough to lead the Hi-Liners back.
Back at home inside thee Hi-Liner Activity Center, the girls Hi-Liner team found themselves in a tight game with the Rough Riders.
For the first time this year the Hi-Liners would enter the halftime break trailing another team as the Rough Riders held the 30-23 advantage. With all five starters finishing the game in double digits on the score sheet (Danica Diegel 10, Madison Taylor 11, Dierra Diegel 11, Clarissa Olson 10, and Jessica Denholm 10), the Hi-Liners would fight back to claim the one point win.
The Hi-Liners are now 7-2 in the EDC and stand 11-2 on the year. The win is Valley City’s eighth in a row, and the Hi-Liners have moved into third place in the conference standings, behind a 9-2 Fargo Shanley.
The Hi-Liners will return to EDC play on Friday night when the boys team host Fargo North, and the girls team makes the trip east to face the Spartans. You can hear the girls game live on 1490 KOVC starting at 5:30pm.
