(NewsDakota.com)- Big games from Paige Peterson and McKayla Orr weren’t enough for the Jamestown Blue Jay girls to upset No. 1 Bismarck High on Saturday night at Jerry Meyer Arena. The girls fell 71-65 while the boys were beaten 73-53.
Peterson had another monster effort with 24 points and 17 rebounds to pace the Jays and Orr added 21 points but fouled out in the final minutes. Jamestown trailed by as many as 14 in the second half but once again made a late push that was countered by some defensive lapses. The Demons had over 20 offensive rebounds and seemed to use every second chance effectively.
Bismarck was able to stay unbeaten in North Dakota play this year, their only loss coming to a team from California. Jamestown’s record fell to 5-7.
Noah Wanzek continues his stellar play since being inserted in the starting lineup averaging 14 points per start. He scored a team-high 12 in the loss to BHS, who is looking to get back in the WDA title hunt. The Demons will need some help in order to move back towards the top after already suffering two losses to St. Mary’s and one to Century.
Both teams are back in action Tuesday at Turtle Mountain.
