N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown City Council met for their monthly meeting on February 3rd. Council Member Steve Brubakken was not present.

Discussion included adding the Essentia Health Care Site into the Renaissance Zone, which would in turn allow Metro Plains a 5 Year tax exemption if approved by the city council. Council Member Dan Buchanan didn’t think the council needed to approve a 5 year tax exemption.

Council Member Buchanan also stated that there is already too much property tax exemption in Jamestown. Erin Anderson, a developer for MetroPlains, came before the council and stated that it was affordable housing and that the location of it would benefit the community with its services. The motion passed on a 3-1 vote with Council Member Buchanan in opposition.

Other items discussed included painting of the new water tower. Travis with Interstate Engineering explained the different designs and costs for the designs. The council moved to have the City Public Works Committee to decide. The council also approved it’s first payment to Woodsonia Real Estate Group in the amount of $125,000.
