Kenneth Hess, 87, of Jamestown, ND, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at Ave Maria Village, Jamestown. Kenneth George Hess was born on April 9, 1926, in Hope, ND, the son of William and Isabelle (Neva) Hess. He grew up in the Kensal and Jamestown areas before entering the US Navy. Kenneth served in the Seabees during WWII in the Philippines and New Guinea. He married Marie Folk on July 11, 1949 at St. James Catholic Church, Jamestown. The family moved to Fargo in 1975 where Kenneth worked as the Safety Director and Equal Opportunity Officer with Northern Improvement for over 40 years. After he retired in 1991, they moved back to Jamestown in 2005. Kenneth enjoyed helping Marie in the kitchen with cooking or canning, and he especially liked onions and took pride in gardening. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in his earlier years. Most of all, Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Kenneth was a member of the American Legion, Elks, North Dakota Safety Council, and the Basilica of St. James. Kenneth is survived by four daughters, Colleen Hess, Devils Lake, ND, Kathy (Gary) Klundt, Jamestown, Deborah (Donald) Hoffman, Devils Lake, Diana (Ross) Weber, LaMoure, ND; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marie; three brothers; and one sister.
Eucharist of Christian Burial: 10:00 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014 at St. James Basilica in Jamestown, ND. Vigil: 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Visitation: 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 3, 2014 at Williams-Lisko Funeral Chapel, Jamestown. Interment: Calvary Cemetery, Jamestown, ND.
