(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School basketball teams took fourth place at the Dakota Holiday Tournament in Ellen dale after losing to Edgeley-Kulm-Montpeiler in the second round of the tournament Saturday evening.
Girls: EKM 46 Oakes 19
The girls of Oakes (0-5) were going toe-to-toe with the Rebels for the first four minutes of the game before EKM started to pull away. A 16 point lead at intermission became 21 after three quarters after Oakes managed just three points in the third quarter.
EKM (2-1) had a team high 19 points from sophomore Olivia Anderson. Oakes had eight points from junior Lydia Hansen.
Boys: EKM 57 Oakes 49
EKM (5-3) had a 15-0 run in the first quarter, but Oakes (0-7) was able to come back later, including taking the lead for a brief time in the third quarter. In the end, the Rebels out scored Oakes 20-13 down the stretch to lock up the victory, and keep the Tornadoes winless on the season.
Sophomore Conner Entzi had 19 points for the victorious Rebels, while junior Bryce Meehl put in 17 in the loss for the Tornadoes.
Ellendale won both the girls and boys tournament championships, defeating Leola-Fredrick South Dakota 64-27 in the girls contest, and 58-39 in the boys game.
The Oakes boys will return to District 1 play on Friday January 3 when they host the Lisbon Broncos, while the girls will host Langdon South Dakota on Saturday January 4. Coverage of the boys game can be heard on KDDR-AM 1220/95.9 FM and NewsDakota.com starting at 7:15, with tip at 7:30 p.m.
