N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City wrestling team made their way east to the Fargodome over the weekend, for the Ruble on the Red. The Hi-liners would finish with one of the strongest showings of any North Dakota team, placing in the top half of both the varsity and junior varsity divisions.

In the Varsity Division, Valley City competed against 68 other teams from around the country. With a total score of 65.5 points, the Hi-Liners finished in 21st place. The only team from North Dakota with a higher team score was West Fargo, who is currently ranked first in the state.

The Hi-Liners were led by 220 pounder, Jordan Magnuson, who finished the tournament in 5th place. During the two day event, Magnuson earned a win over the top ranked wrestler in North Dakota’s class B division and finished with a record of six and two.

Despite fighting a rib injury over the weekend, Zach Doty battled his way to a sixth place finish with a record of five and three.

Other impressive performances from the Hi-Liners varsity squad included a round of 12 appearance from Mark Miller and a three win performance from Reed Beckman.

The Hi-Liners would have more success in the junior varsity division, where Dustin Lindgren (186 lbs) became the first Valley City grapler to ever claim a championship at the Rumble on the Red.

Led by Lindgren, the JV team would finish the tournament with 151 points claiming 9th place out of 64 teams. The top ten finish was higher than any other team from North Dakota.

Addison Lerud also had a strong performance ending the weekend in 4th place in the 195 pound weight class.

Mason Bjornson and Noah Kaber each totaled four wins on the weekend. Christian Swenson, Rylee Bjork, Jaiden Opatz and Everrett Komrosky all finished the meet with three.

The Hi-Liners return to the mats on January third and fourth when they travel to the states capitol for the Bismarck Rotary Tournament.
