(NewsDakota.com) For the second straight week, the Ellendale High School boys and girls basketball teams defeated their counterparts from Oakes; this time in the opening round of the Dakota Holiday Tournament.

The Ellendale girls had another solid victory against their Dickey County rivals on Friday night, establishing a 16-3 lead after the first quarter, and a 38-8 halftime advantage. The Tornadoes faired better in the second half with 17 points to Ellendale’s 21.

In other day one action, the Leola-Fredrick South Dakota girls and boys teams won against Edgeley-Kulm-Montpeiler. The Titan girls won 44-39 in overtime, while the boys won 62-52.
