CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Valley City, Lisbon and Fargo may be eligible for mitigation from the State Water Commission due to river bank erosion and high sulfate levels.
Valley City Commissioner Madeline Luke says with high sulfate levels the cost of treating the river water is higher.
Under a N.D. Department of Health ruling sulfate readings are not to exceed 750 milligrams per liter in the Sheyenne River.
Water Treatment plant supervisor Wade Hesch says sulfate levels reached 700 milligrams per liter in a test last week. If sulfate levels are higher than 750, cities that use Sheyenne river water would be eligible for funding to help pay for the higher cost of treatment.
