Sister Emma Marie Arcand, 91, of Valley City, ND died at Sheyenne Care Center, Valley City, ND on December 22, 2013. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, December 27th at 10:30 a.m. at the Maryvale Convent Chapel. Father Claude Seeberger, OSB will be the celebrant. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on December 26th with a Prayer Service beginning at 7:00 p.m. in the Maryvale Chapel.
Sister Emma Marie was born March 9, 1922 in Williston, ND to Lucien and Emma (Bellemare) Arcand. She was the youngest of seventeen children. She professed her vows as a Sister of Mary of the Presentation on August 26, 1942 in Spring Valley, IL. Sister Emma Marie attended high school at Notre Dame Academy in Willow City, ND and received her bachelor degree in education from the College of Great Falls in Great Falls, MT. She loved to teach and in her career as a teacher of all grades from 1st grade to high school in Harvey, ND; Valley City, ND; Olga, ND; Wild Rice, ND; Willow City, ND; Lisbon, ND; Washington, IL; Walhalla, ND; and in the Belcourt School. She spent eight years teaching at the Cardinal Meunch Seminary in Fargo, ND. Sister Emma Marie also worked as a patient visitor and volunteer at Presentation Medical Center in Rolla, ND and Presentation Care Center at Rolette, ND. She retired to Maryvale Convent in July 1999 and moved to the Sheyenne Care Center in March 2013. She was very grateful for the kind and dedicated care she received at the Care Center.
Sister Emma Marie is survived by her Religious Community, the Sisters of Mary of the Presentation and two sisters, Sister Mary Noreen Arcand, Omaha, NE and Theresa Bjella of Lisle, IL.
