CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) The Valley City Hi-Liners returned home to the Hi-Liner Activity Center on Thursday night for their first home game of the season. It turned out to be a good home coming as Valley City out lasted the Sheyenne in a 67-60 victory.
The Hi-Liners got the job done under the basket giving it to their big man Ian Schweitzer. Over powering his defenders, the 6’5 junior made his way to the net to compile 21 points for the home team. While the strong post play gave Valley City a half time lead, it would not be enough to keep Sheyenne at bay. The Mustangs would race back into the lead early in the second half.
While trailing in the game, The Hi-Liners would turn to an unlikely hero. Freshman Levi Nix, fresh out of the JV game, caught fire in the second half hitting three pointer after three pointer before finishing the game with 15 points behind the arc. Nix’s play gave the Hi-Liners back the lead and they kept it all the way to the final buzzer.
Valley City advances to 1-1 on the year, their next game comes when they travel west down I-94 to meet up with the Jamestown Blue Jays on December 28th. That game will be part of a boys and girls double header and both games can be heard on KQDJ AM and KOVC AM starting at 5:15pm.
