CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) Recently, North Dakota received an “F” rating in school security. Despite that news, Valley City Public Schools Superintendent Dean Koppelman says the school district has taken some steps to make schools safer a year after the Sandy Hook school shootings. He says more cameras have been installed at entrances but a plan to lock all doors in the future is under discussion.
Koppelman reminds the public that all visitors must register inside the office immediately once you enter any school building.
He says a bill co-sponsored by Valley City Senator Larry Robinson aims to procure funding to have school districts throughout the state make structural changes to their buildings to enhance security.
Some North Dakotan’s say more measures should have been taken in school district throughout the state to beef up security since the tragic shootings at Sandy Hook Elementary school one year ago.
