IA (NewsDakota.com)- The longest road trip of the season got mixed results on the first night as the Jimmie women won an 80-75 decision over St. Ambrose and the men fell 73-63. The bus ride down to Davenport was 11 hours with a stop in Iowa City to practice at Justin Wieck’s old stomping grounds, Iowa City West High.

Another brilliant night from Hannah Steele and a 19-point effort from Jordan Bridges helped pace the Jimmies to a tough road victory. The game started with a 6-0 run by the Queen Bees, before Jamestown answered with a 16-2 to grab early control.
Of course basketball is a “game of runs” and St. Ambrose responded with a 9-0 run and eventually held a 38-34 lead into the break.
Jamestown was able to build an 11-point lead in the second half behind back-to-back three-point baskets by Carly Jensen and Jessica Buck. The Bees were able to create some tense moments at the end when they pulled within 77-74, but Jensen hit some late free throws to put the game away.

It was a frustrating night for Coach Wieck and the Jimmies as they dropped their seventh game of the season. “We are lucky we were still in that game late,” Wieck said after the game. Jamestown turned it over 21 times, but the Fighting Bees coughed it up 27 times and the Jimmies turned those turnovers into 35 points.
The Bees also owned the glass grabbing 45 rebounds to the Jimmies’ 28. Jamestown was able to get a little bit of a spark late after trailing 15 with 7:27 to go and they pulled within five. Matt Wingo sparked the run with a big offensive rebound and put back.
Jamestown will play at Ashford University Saturday in Clinton, IA. Those games will be on the radio beginning at 12:50pm on 1400/97.1 KQDJ & NewsDakota.com.
