CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) In front of a home crowd at W.E. Osmon Field house, the Valley City State women’s basketball team claimed a victory over visiting Viterbo by a score of 83-50.

The V-Hawks took the early lead in the game behind the play of their point guard Jenna Engh, who tallied the first 11 points for her side. However, Valley City didn’t stay quiet long. Led by Brittany Lehner, who tallied 26 points in the first half, the Vikings took back the lead and never again relinquished it.

The Vikings shot 69% from the field in the first half taking a 53-31 lead into the break. In the second half, Valley City continued to pull away from their opponent leading by as much as 40 points.

As the seconds came to a close, Lehner would finish the night with a career high 32 points. Stephanie Pedersen totaled 14 points on the night, while Courtney Greiner and Megan Trautman added 7 apiece off the bench. In all, 10 different Vikings players ended the night with points.

Viterbo was led in scoring by Engh, who ended the night with 24 points.

The Vikings now stand 3-4 on the season, while the V-Hawks fall to 1-6. VCSU’s next test comes on Monday, November 25th when they travel to Minnesota State Moorhead for an exhibition.
