(NewsDakota.com)- The Jays are headed to the state championship for the first time in school history after a straight-set dismantling of Fargo Shanley 3-0 (31-29, 25-23, 25-22). Addie Eamon’s 16 kills lead Jamestown into the final and she put the finishing touches on the match when deflected a Shanley tip off the Deacon libero and out of play.

In the first set, Jamestown trailed 24-20 but after a timeout by Sara Hegerle they came back to tie the set at 24. They would have to fight off two more set points, so six in all, before Josie Hegerle’s tip grabbed Jamestown the elusive two-point lead.

Jamestown jumped out to a 6-0 lead to open up set two and eventually lead 14-4 before Shanley fought back into the set. Credit the Deacons, they didn’t quit eventually pulling the score to 20-17.

But the Jays proved to be too much. Grabbing the second set and the eventually finishing off the sweep in set three.

Jamestown will play at 8pm Saturday night in the state championship match against the winner of Century/St. Mary’s (when this was posted Century was leading 2-0).

The game will be broadcast on 1400/97.1 KQDJ and streamed online at NewsDakota.com.
