N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – As a demonstration of their commitment to community, Northern Plains Electric and Dakota Valley Electric celebrated cooperative month by giving to those in need.

Northern Plains and Dakota Valley collected nonperishable food items to donate to local food pantries in October as part of its annual Cooperative Month celebration. Each board also donated $300 to the cause. Benefiting organizations include Carrington Daily Bread as well as food pantries in LaMoure, Towner and Sargent counties.

The items are distributed in November so food pantry shelves are stocked for the busy winter season.

“Northern Plains and Dakota Valley conduct activities and outreach all year long, but we also looks for special ways to demonstrate the value of cooperatives during Cooperative Month,” said Janelle Marcotte, one of the food drive organizers. “Cooperatives are committed to serving their communities because that’s where we, the employees, all live and work.”
