D.C. (NewsDakota.com) The U.S. House of Representatives passed a bill to speed up drilling for oil and natural gas, and the Act could have an effect on fracking regulations in the state of North Dakota.

Representative Kevin Cramer co-sponsored the Federal Lands Jobs and Energy Security Act. The act will reform leasing and permitting for fracking, and reduce what sponsors describe as bureaucratic burdens for tribal energy development on federal lands.

Cramer, says, “What it does is it diverts some of the resources into the right places that allows a stream lining of permitting,” He adds, “While also empowering the local offices of our Bureau of Land Management or US Forest Service in ways that allows them to do the jobs they do very well, even better.”

Meanwhile, the Federal Lands Jobs and Energy Security Act included several smaller bills, such as the Protecting States’ Rights to Promote American Energy Security Act blocks federal regulations in states that have rules and permits for hydraulic fracking on federal lands. It’s another bill that Cramer supports, He says, “It’s your state and that the federal government limited standards ought not to impose on the states and their rights to develop their resources the way they want to.”

A companion bill introduced by Senator John Hoeven, (R) is waiting for a vote in the Senate.

President Obama has promised to veto both bills, saying they are unnecessary and counteractive to protections put in place for oil and gas drilling.
