N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation has placed a proposal on its agenda for consideration.
A proposal to purchase land for a possible big box home improvement retail store was debated during a special JSDC board meeting. The land, also called Prairie Haven, is located west of R.M. Stoudt, Northwest of the Buffalo Mall.
Mayor Katie Andersen proposed that the JSDC buy the 43 acres for the 73 acre development for $5.6 million. Mayor Anderson spoke as a board member and not as a representative for the City Council. JSDC Attorney Joe Larson disagreed with Andersen. Changes to the bylaws would have to be changed and Larsen also stated concern about competition issues.
The developer’s agreement requires that the city purchases the land. The land would be used to bring in a large home improvement store, such as Lowe’s, Menard’s, or Home Depot.
