Kurt Allen Fitzner, age 69, died Monday, November 18, 2013 at Mercy Hospital succumbing to the recent onset of bone cancer and leukemia.

     Kurt was born November 17, 1944, at Granite Falls, Minnesota, the son of Romen H. and Arla K. (Anderson) Fitzner.  He was baptized at Granite Falls Lutheran Church and confirmed at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City.

     After graduation from Valley City High School in 1962 Kurt attended college and in 1964 enlisted in the United States Navy.  After six years of military service Kurt was employed by New England Life in Boston, Massachusetts, as a computer technician.  He returned home to Valley City in 1992 where he worked for the Open Door Center for 15 years.

     Kurt recently resided at the North Dakota Veteran’s Home in Lisbon, North Dakota.  He is survived by three brothers, R. Jon, Rick (Jo) and Mark (Cindy) all of Valley City, by special friends June Mullen of Kissimmee, Florida, Rudy and Sheryl Hanson of Valley City and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Roann Welk.

     Services will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, November 22, 2013 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Valley City with pastor Emmy Swedlund presiding.  Visitation will be one hour before the funeral at the church.
