The memorial service for Carol Knutson, 75, Litchville, ND, will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 22, 2013 at First Lutheran Church, Litchville. Burial will be in St. Thomas Cemetery, rural Litchville. She died at her home on November 17, 2013, while being cared for by her family with the help of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

     Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 21 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the Oliver-Nathan Funeral Chapel. A prayer service will be held there beginning at 7:00. Visitation will continue an hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

     Carol Jean Hanenberg was born on February 1, 1938 in Valley City, ND, the daughter of Henry and Anna (Bonen) Hanenberg. She attended grade school in Valley City. In 1956, she graduated from Sanborn High School. Carol worked at National T Grocery Store in Valley City and Jamestown and also for Bell Telephone.

     In 1958, she married Don Knutson in Sanborn, ND. They made their home near Litchville and farmed there for many years.

     Carol had enjoyed many things. She loved to spend time in her flower gardens, dancing, going to casinos, and shopping. Her happiest times were spent at home spending time with family, reading and putting puzzles together. She also loved animals and had numerous pets through the years.

     She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Don of Litchville; children, Scott Knutson of Litchville, Penny (Craig) Mattheis of Hazen, ND, and David (Kathy) Knutson of Litchville; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; siblings, John Hanenberg of Little Falls, MN and June Orner of Sanborn; sisters-in-law, Lois (Vernon) Aase and Gloria Knutson both of Valley City; and numerous nieces and nephews.

     She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Betty Blakovich; and brothers-in-law, Norman Orner, Steve Blakovich, and Arlen Knutson.
