(NewsDakota.com) The Oakes High School volleyball team has seen their share of ups and downs throughout the 2013 season. Thursday evening in Forman, they saw a big boost in confidence as the post-season commenced with a 3-1 victory against Sargent Central in the opening round of the District 1 Tournament.

The Tornadoes as the #6 seed defeated the #3 seeded Cadets by scores of 25-19, 25-18, 20-25 and 25-16.

Oakes head coach Kathy Warren says her team is starting to get hot at just the right time.

The other scores from District 1 Thursday night:

#1 Lisbon def. #8 Milnor 3-1 (23-25, 25-14, 25-15, 25-7)

#4 North Sargent def. #5 Fairmount-CT 3-1 (24-26, 25-21, 29-27, 25-20)

#2Hankinson def. #7 Wyndmere-Lidgerwood 3-1 (25-17, 23-25, 25-13, 25-11)

The games on deck for Friday in Milnor:

Loser-Out: Fairmount-CT vs. Milnor

Loser-Out: Sargent Central vs. Wyndmere-Lidgerwood

Semifinal: Lisbon vs. North Sargent

Semifinal: Hankinson vs. Oakes
