CITY, N.D (NewsDakota.com) As the race for positioning in the EDC tournament continues to heat up, the Hi-Liners put themselves in a position for success after defeating the Wahpeton Huskies in straight sets (25-23, 25-14, 25-18) last night at the Hi-Liner Activities Center.
Once again, the Hi-Liners were led by their seniors at the net, coming up with play after play, Danica Diegel and Dierra Diegle powered their way past the blocking core of the Huskies. Jessica Denholm kept Wahpeton on their toes with a solid night at the service line, and Madison Taylor made a number of blocks for the Hi-Liners keeping the ball on the other side of the court.
Despite the win, the Hi-Liners were unable to move up in the EDC, as Fargo South defeated Fargo North on Tuesday night in four games (25-20, 21-25, 25-19, 25-21) preventing Valley City from jumping them in the standings.
With the Hi-Liners hosting the final two rounds of the EDC tournament, and the higher seeded team hoisting the first round of the tournament, Valley City could claim home court advantage for the entire EDC playoffs if they can finish the regular season in fourth place. Currently Valley City is a half a game behind Fargo South for the coveted spot.
Valley City will have two more opportunities to move up in the standings starting on Thursday, October 31st when they travel to Fargo Davies for a match up with the Eagles. Then the Hi-Liners will wrap up the regular season on November 5th in a two point match with West Fargo. Both those games will be aired on 1490 KOVC starting at 7pm.
