Lois Griffin Retzlaff, 83, died Friday, October 18, 2013 as a result of an accident at her home. She was born and raised in Ellendale, ND. Lois spent most of her adult life in Aberdeen, and many summers at Elm Lake, near Forbes, ND.

     Lois energetically and passionately embraced her long-time career with Avera Health Systems. Over the years, she held several positions as an aide in health services. She loved providing care to others, and considered those receiving her care as part of her family. She enjoyed spending leisure time with her family and many good friends, playing cards and throwing darts, and loved working in her flower gardens and being outdoors. She was also a very accomplished seamstress.

     She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

     Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law Robin (Kanlaya) Retzlaff, Aberdeen and Ban Prasat, Thailand; Rory (Kristin) Retzlaff, Kirkland, WA, daughters and sons-in-law Renee (Bruce) Poe, Boise, ID; Roseann (Alan) Christensen, Lincoln, NE; brother and sister-in-law Marvin (Esther) Griffin, Milwaukee, WI. She had 11 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by parents Ted and Lillian Griffin, brother Orrin and sister Shirley.

     At her request there will be a private family burial and no service.

     Family prefers memorials to Presentation Sisters, 1500 N 2nd St, Aberdeen, SD 57401. The Sisters will plant a tree and place a plaque at the tree in recognition of Lois’s contributions and in memory of her life.
